Single Quotation Marks

According to the MLA style, the only time you should use single quotation marks is when you have to record a quotation inside a quotation (or dialogue within a quotation):

Once again unable to align her words and feelings, Hagar "wanted to say `There, there, it's all right,' but . . . did not say that."
