(Dis)oriented/ (Dis)orientated

Many people assume that (dis)orientation is derived from the fictitious verb "to (dis)orientate" rather than "to (dis)orient." This confusion gives rise to the cumbersome "(dis)orientated." The historically correct form is (dis)oriented.
