Besides courses and writing centres, other university facilities also provide specialized support for the kinds of writing expected at the University of Toronto.
- Counselors from the Counselling and Learning Skills Service provide short workshops on such topics as note-taking, reading academic material, and avoiding writer's block. They are open to all students. Many are held in Robarts Library. For current information, see this listing of events. Support groups and individual counselling are also available at the CALSS office, Room 111 in the Koffler Student Centre, 214 College Street. Call 416 978-7970 for further information on what might meet your needs. A drop-in centre on the second floor of the Koffler Centre (up the stairs from the St. George entrance) is open daily, with a counsellor present Monday to Thursday afternoons and Tuesday evening.
- The Accessibility Program is now located in Robarts Library, 130 St. George Street, and at offices on the Scarborough and Mississauga campuses. If you are registered with this office, you may be eligible to work with specialized counsellors and facilities. For information, call 416 978-8060, TDD 416 978-1902 or visit the website.
- The Office of English Language and Writing Support (ELWS) offers innovative programming tailored for graduate students enrolled in the School of Graduate Studies. Check the website for current announcements, and call 416 946-7485 to make appointments for individual consultations.
- The School of Continuing Studies offers many non-credit courses on writing, including some in creative writing and English as a second language. Courses start at various times through the year, and some are offered as distance education. You can register at 158 St. George Street or call 416 978-2400 to register by phone.
